The Teacher
The student "learns the teacher" as much as they learn the instrument.
The relationship between the teacher and student is fundamental to the learning
process. With a good teacher, any subject is interesting – so it’s
worth finding the best.
A good teacher should have enthusiasm for music and their instrument, be sensitive
to the students needs and aspirations, be able to “connect” with
the student, care and be kind to the student, have lots of patience, be a good
player, have knowledge of repertoire, teaching experience and appropriate qualifications,
have high standards and expectations of their students, come with a recommendation
and be able to teach theory and ear training.
If you can find all these qualities in one person you are doing well!
